Chris first picked up a guitar in the sixties after being
inspired by the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. He's had a guitar (or
two) somewhere close by ever since. After learning popular tunes from
the radio and records, and playing from published songbooks, he began
writing his own songs. He collaborated with musician friends in the
eighties and nineties, and started performing his own music at local
venues. Decades of songwriting allows Chris the luxury of performing all
original tunes.
Chris has called his style "ballads to blues" - some folks
call it "contemporary folk". Chris has had many musical influences,
growing up with fifties jazz, sixties folk and seventies rock.
Rather than settle into a particular style, Chris concentrates on
crafting the song with music appropriate for the sentiment. He uses
a variety of guitar tunings and playing techniques and has continued
crafting his skills by attending music workshops to learn from the
best: songwriters such as Linda Waterfall and Carol McComb, and
guitar masters Paul Chasman, Nina Gerber and others.

After years of writing and performing, Chris produced his debut CD
The Fifty Year Dream in 2002. It's
filled with thoughtful and occasionally humorous songs : bluesy folk,
ballads, a touch of swing and even a lullaby.
His second CD is a collection of his instrumentals.
Barcelona Suite and Other Compositions.
Released in 2011, it contains music inspired by different guitars in
different tunings.
Future release plans include more blues, more guitars and additional
arrangements of previous collaborations. Chris continues to write new
material because the music hasn't stopped yet. |
